Skilled Independent Subclass 189 Visa
This visa is a permanent residence visa which does not require sponsorship by an employer. The applicant must be skilled in an occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
Key criteria:
- Score at least 65 on the points test
- Have a positive skills assessment in occupation on the MLTSSL
- Be under 45 years of age
- Have at least competent English
- Meet health and character criteria
Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 Visa
This visa is similar to the subclass 189 visa in that it is a permanent residence visa which does not require sponsorship by an employer.
Where it differs is that it requires an Australian State or Territory to nominate you.
Each State and Territory have their own eligibility criteria which includes their own specific list of occupations that are deemed in demand in their State or Territory.
Key criteria
- Score at least 65 in the points test
- Be nominated by a State or Territory Government
- Have a positive skills assessment in occupation on the State or Territory
- Government occupation list
- Be under 45 years of age
- Have at least competent English
- Meet health and character criteria
Once granted you are required to live and work in the nominated State or Territory for at least the first two years.
