Employer Nominated Permanent Residence Subclass 186 Visa
This is a permanent residence visa available to applicants that are nominated under an occupation on the Medium to Long Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
The subclass 186 visa has two streams:
- Temporary Residence Transition (TRT); and
- Direct Entry (DE).
Temporary Residence Transition (TRT)
The visa applicant must:
- Be nominated by their employer
- Be the holder of a subclass 457 or 482 visa
- Be under 45 years of age (some exemptions apply)
- Meet registration / licensing requirements (if applicable)
- Have worked for their sponsoring employer for 3 years*
- Meet English, health and character criteria
* Certain health professionals (eg. General Practitioners) do not need to be employed by the same employer for 3 years but must have been employed for 3 years in Australia.
Direct Entry (DE)
The visa applicant must:
- Be nominated by their employer
- Be under 45 years of age (some exemptions apply)
- Have a positive skills assessment in their nominated occupation
- Meet registration / licensing requirements (if applicable)
- Have 3 years relevant skilled employment experience
- Meet English, health and character criteria
Grandfathering Provisions
If you had applied for, or held, a subclass 457 visa as at 18 April 2017, you will have access to transitional arrangements until March 2022.
This may provide you with you with further options to apply under the subclass 186 category.
