The University of Queensland Master of Nursing Studies Program
Overview:
 
You will benefit from a program that takes a problem-based approach to learning and integrates classroom-based study with clinical practice. You will develop clinical reasoning skills to provide high-quality, safe, and effective care, and will learn the most relevant theories and the latest skills from health and nursing professionals.UQ’s nursing programs are regularly updated to include topical and innovative study areas, which means your knowledge will be the most current.

 

Program:

As a UQ Master of Nursing student, you will develop clinical skills and experiences from your very first semester. During your first year you’ll undertake morning and evening shifts at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. In your final year, you’ll complete night and weekend shifts where you’ll refine and develop your skill-set.

You will undertake approximately 800 hours of supervised clinical practice in a range of clinical settings, including hospitals and a variety of healthcare organizations. During placements, you will have the opportunity to apply your theoretical knowledge acquired through coursework to practice and develop clinical skills in a real-life setting.

You will commence your clinical placements in week four of the program. During the first year, you will normally complete approximately 38 eight-hour shifts and in the final year you will complete approximately 86 eight-hour shifts.

Admission Requirements

Completed bachelor’s degree:
You must have an undergraduate degree with prerequisites in biology, chemistry, or physics at undergraduate level (or equivalent) for admission to the program.

 
Admission Timeline:
*Application deadlines are November 29 for the February intake, and April 29 for the July intake; however, you are strongly encouraged to submit your application as early as possible as this program can fill quickly.
