Overview

Studying a Bachelor of Nursing degree at the University of Newcastle (UON) will give you the opportunity to undertake a wide range of courses in health and medicine. You will have the opportunity to study your nursing courses in face-to face learning and online. In addition to theoretical learning, a UON nursing degree offers plenty of hands-on experience in clinical laboratories and placements.

You can study courses in areas that include nursing theory and practice in

  • primary, secondary and tertiary nursing;
  • aged care;
  • mental health;
  • human bioscience.

 

Program

Over the course of the Bachelor of Nursing program, you will complete 800 hours in a range of diverse clinical contexts including, but not limited to, primary health care services, community centres, residential aged-care contexts, mental health services and acute care hospitals throughout the Hunter, Central Coast, Mid North Coast and University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) sites.

Hands-on clinical experience is undertaken initially in the laboratories and simulation units on campus and then in actual health care contexts. Graduates will be well-prepared clinically and academically for rewarding careers in a wide variety of health settings.

 

Admission Requirements

Completed high school diploma
You must have a high school diploma with a 60% average or higher in your final year of studies with biology and/or chemistry, general English and general maths. You are expected to have suitable computer skills, including word processing, email, web and web searching.

 

Admission Timeline

*While there is no set application deadline, you are strongly encouraged by the university to submit your application a minimum of three months prior to the program start date.
