The Master of Nursing Science from the University of Melbourne is a professional master’s degree that provides exceptional preparation for a nursing career. The degree is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and enables you to practice as a registered nurse.
As a nursing student at Melbourne, you will be part of a diverse and talented population of students at entry-to-practice, advanced practice and research levels. Program
The University of Melbourne offers an integrated curriculum where you will learn theory alongside your clinical placement. Clinical and bioscience topics are coordinated to enhance your understanding of theory in practice. You will participate in 6 to 8 weeks of intensive teaching each semester, followed by three or four weeks of professional experience placement with partner hospitals. This degree offers a higher ratio of placement to theory compared to many other professional entry nursing degrees in Australia with more than 800 hours of placement experience including specialist placements in mental health.
Melbourne’s clinical placements are in the largest major metropolitan teaching hospitals which offer a variety of clinical practice opportunities and research collaborations. The university has state-of-the-art clinical skills laboratories with the latest medical mannequins and equipment, and dedicated laboratory staff to guide your practical skill development. The clinical skills labs are used for classes and you can book them for self-directed learning.
Admission Requirements
Completed bachelor’s degree
You must have a three-year undergraduate degree in any discipline, completed no more than ten years prior to the date of application, OR an older undergraduate degree and either more recent study experience that demonstrates current capacity for graduate study OR five years of documented relevant work experience.
Prerequisite knowledge
Applicants are assumed to have some human anatomy understanding at university level before commencing the program. If you do not have some grounding in human anatomy, you should take the online subject Introductory Human Physiology to prepare for the course.
The Selection Committee may conduct interviews to elucidate any of the matters referred to above.
